Clarent Corporation (CLRN) Research
Clarent Corporation specialized in developing software-driven communication technologies that enabled service providers to transmit voice, fax, and data simultaneously across Internet Protocol (IP) networks. These innovations effectively bridged the gap between conventional circuit-switched telephone systems and modern IP networks, ensuring that IP telephony remained imperceptible to end-users who continued to use their existing wired or wireless phones. The company's customer base included telecommunication service providers, system integrators, resellers, and various enterprise-level organizations. Founded in 1996, the entity first operated as NetiPhone before adopting the name Clarent Corporation in May 1997. While its headquarters were located in Redwood City, California, Clarent also maintained a global footprint with additional offices in Asia, Europe, Latin America, and North America. On December 13, 2002, Clarent Corporation initiated Chapter 11 reorganization proceedings by filing a voluntary petition with the US Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of California. This reorganization strategy later converted to a Chapter 11 liquidation, which was formally approved on April 1, 2004. Clarent Corporation is currently undergoing liquidation.
