Capital Group Short Duration Income ETF (CGSD) Research
The Capital Group Short Duration Income ETF aims to provide current income and preserve capital, consistent with a short-duration investment strategy. The fund primarily invests in a diverse range of debt instruments, including bonds, cash equivalents, and certain derivatives. The majority of its holdings will be investment-grade debt, specifically rated BBB- (or Baa3) or better by Nationally Recognized Statistical Rating Organizations, or deemed of equivalent quality by the investment adviser. The portfolio is managed to maintain an average duration typically under two years, with an upper limit of three years. Investments are predominantly denominated in U.S. dollars and encompass various types of debt securities. These include instruments issued or guaranteed by the U.S. government, corporate bonds, asset-backed securities (such as those tied to auto loans or credit card receivables), mortgage-backed securities, and debt from government-sponsored entities and federal agencies (which do not carry the full faith and credit of the U.S. government). The fund also has the flexibility to allocate up to 5% of its assets to debt securities rated BB+ (or Ba1) or below, provided they meet a minimum rating of BB- (or Ba3). Additionally, the ETF may utilize derivatives like futures contracts and swaps, which are financial agreements whose value is based on an underlying asset, reference rate, or market index. It can also invest in inflation-linked bonds from U.S. and non-U.S. governments, their agencies, or corporations. These bonds are specifically designed to protect against inflation by adjusting their principal and interest payments in line with an inflation index, such as the Consumer Price Index for Urban Consumers.
