Conversely, negative skewness points to more frequent, modest gains, yet carries the potential for infrequent but significant drawdowns. The index calculates each security's equity skewness using a moving average and also assesses how its returns correlate with the average performance across its entire market universe. The fund's stock selection methodology adapts to the prevailing market conditions: if the overall market exhibits positive skewness, BOBP prioritizes individual stocks with similar positive skewness. However, if the broader market shows negative skewness, the fund gravitates towards stocks displaying a comparatively less negative, or more neutral, skew. From the pool of securities that satisfy these criteria, the top 50 are chosen and equally weighted within the portfolio. This sophisticated approach is designed to mitigate the influence of transient market fluctuations and filter out short-term "noise."
