Additionally, it undertakes the manufacturing and sale of both polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP), provides electricity and other essential inputs to second-generation producers, and is notable for its production of green PE derived from renewable sources. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and caustic soda are also among the products generated and marketed by this segment. In Mexico, the company is responsible for the production and distribution of ethylene, high-density PE, and low-density PE. Beyond these segmented activities, Braskem engages broadly in the manufacturing, selling, importing, and exporting of chemicals, petrochemicals, and various fuels. It also plays a role in generating and supplying crucial utilities like steam, water, compressed air, and industrial gases, in addition to providing a suite of industrial services. Established in 1972, the company initially traded as Copene Petroquímica do Nordeste S.A. before rebranding as Braskem S.A. in 2002. Its principal corporate office is situated in Camaçari, Brazil.
